Drexel Hill Cyclery's Owner - Frank Havnoonian

Frank has established himself as an icon in the Delaware Valley cycling community in three areas in a lifetime of dedicated work.

As an original member of the Delaware Valley Bicycle Club (DVBC), he worked tirelessly for the bike club as a volunteer in all of its endeavors over a period of some 25 years. At one time or another, he held every possible office on the Board. He was instrumental in putting on their two annual fund raising tours and was a regular recreational ride leader.

In the category of competitive cycling, he established himself as one of the fastest racers to come from our community. He won the Pennsylvania State time trial championship, over a 25-mile course, in 1979. He has set at least one record that has never been broken. He was a member of the DVBC racing team and eventually established a second team for which he became the coach: Team Drexel Hill. He has always been available as a racing and training consultant. He has also attained a reputation as one of the best and fastest mechanics in our community and for many years was a team support mechanic at the US Pro Championships in Philadelphia.

As sole proprietor of Drexel Hill Cyclery, he has distinguished himself by introducing many of his customers to their first quality mounts and has managed to help keep them on the road. Other Raleigh dealers and mechanics regularly consult Frank for advice and vintage parts. Frank's father, who established the premier Raleigh dealership in Delaware County, retired in 1989. At that time Frank took over the business and, when Milt Glass went out of business in the 90’s, Drexel Hill Cyclery became the oldest continuous bike shop in Delaware County.

It is individuals like Frank Havnoonian who make the Delaware Valley bicycling community what it is - a place where people share their love of bikes and of riding. In 2003 Frank Havnoonian became the first inductee into the Delaware Valley Bicycle Club's Hall of Fame.
